QUINTA DAS CEREJEIRAS
100 years of tradition.
Founded in 1926 by Abel Pereira da Fonseca, Companhia Agricola do Sanguinhal began as a way to manage his vineyards in the Bombarral region. At a time when tractors were not yet available, he pioneered the planting of single-variety vineyards, ensuring that each plot was dedicated to a specific grape. He also experimented with over 30 different grape varieties at Quinta do Sanguinhal, which he referred to as "experiences." Today, Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal operates three farms in the Demarcated Region of Óbidos: Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras, and Quinta de S. Francisco.
Located just 40 minutes from Lisbon, Quinta das Cerejeiras is known for producing some of the finest DOC Óbidos wines.
Home to lush vineyards and Rocha pear orchards, the winery’s century-old label for its Grande Reserva wine, a DOC Óbidos, is celebrated as one of Portugal's most distinguished and recognized brands across generations.
The vineyards feature a variety of grapes from its older vines, including white varieties like Arinto, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Fernao Pires, as well as red varieties such as Castelao, Touriga Nacional and Aragonez. These grapes thrive on gentle slopes with sandy clay soil, benefiting from optimal sun exposure.
