ARVAD
On the banks of the Arade River, facing the historic skyline of Silves, the Arvad project has built one of the Algarve’s most unique wine offerings in just a few years. Established in 2016 on a property exposed to northern winds and characterized by clay-limestone soils, the project combines contemporary viticulture, Mediterranean heritage, 9 hectares of vineyard, and a territorial narrative that dates back to the origins of wine in Portugal. The result is an experience where landscape, history, and tasting intertwine to explain a lesser-known Algarve: one of ancient winemaking tradition.
The name Arvad, meaning “refuge,” evokes this historical dimension. According to local tradition, it was in this area of the Algarve where the Phoenicians introduced wine to Portuguese territory, beginning a bond between culture and viticulture that still defines the region today. This heritage becomes the guiding thread of the project: every visit, every wine, and every space in the winery is conceived as part of a story connecting past and present.
